Core Aeration

Lawn aeration is the removal of small soil plugs or cores from your lawn. Most aeration is done with a machine which has hollow tines which penetrate into the dirt and extract the plugs. These plugs are ½” to ¾” inch in diameter and are typically 1-5 inches deep and 2-6 inches apart depending on the aerator used. The cores that remain on the ground when finished are left to dry up and break down naturally.

Lawn aeration is the best and most efficient way to combat soil compaction and serious attacks of thatch and aids to:

  • Enhance new root growth
  • Enhance soil water uptake capability
  • Enhanced fertilizer absorption
  • Enhances the micro biological breakdown of the excess thatch
  • Reduces soil compaction
  • Will Reduce drastically the water runoff and creation of puddles
  • Core Aeration will help Improve heat and drought stress tolerance of the lawn

Power Raking (Dethatching)

A power rake is a specific type of machine equipped with flail reels that “rake” the lawn deep down to the thatch layer. The blades are set to turn just on the surface of the lawn, so that they dig into the grass bed and dead material covering the soil without actually digging it up. Power rakes produce a layer of particulate organic material combined with normal raking afterwards to remove the left over “Thatch”.

Power Raking has many benefits:

  • Water Penetration
  • Air Circulation
  • No More Dead Looking Lawn

Slit Seeding

Slit seeding is a process in which a machine slices rows into your lawn and drops seed into the slits created by knives. The knives are designed to slice into your lawn creating a passageway for the seeds to enter the existing soil. This places the seed in direct soil contact for a much higher percentage of seed germination than regular over-seeding. This process also removes a minimal layer of thatch which is cleaned up at the end of the process. Slit seeding is the most cost effective method for re-establishing a thin or weak lawn!
